It sure sounds like IBM Lotus plans to keep up with the Eclipse releases for the Expeditor and hence the Notes 8 platform. This is great. At least that is what John Head quotes Ed Brill as saying the the Collaboration University keynote. This is at least what I take from “Mac Beta in 8.0.1 … Eclipse 3.4 required and not ready yet”…

Well, it’s good and bad. It says a lot about the Java implementation on OSX that Eclipse makes an inadequate shell for Notes 8 without two more point releases.
But that’s more Apple’s fault than IBM’s, IMO.
I spent a significant amount of my weekend deconstructing the Expeditor environment for Notes 8 and learning how all this Eclipse business actually works. New versions are going to be… exciting. ๐
About the Java implementation on OSX I think that’s pretty much agree upon in the field but I guess it’s going to take some time before Notes 8 on OSX (and on Linux for that matter) is production ready and all the problems, mainly installation wise, has been removed.
As to deconstructing the Expeditor platform I agree that there are a lot of gems to be found once you start looking at the plugins… ๐
