Who chose to sort the timezones alphabetically in Sametime 7.5?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to sort them by number of times offset from GMT? The screenshot is from the “Location Settings” dialog in Sametime 7.5.

  1. I found it odd too – there are 6 entries under ‘Eastern Standard Time’ – two for the US east coast (GMT -5, GMT -6 ) and four for the east coast of Australia (GMT + 10)

I looked first under ‘A’ for Australia, then ‘M’ for Melbourne ‘S’ for Sydney then finally ‘E’

I guess it’s because non-technical people probably don’t know the GMT offset
