  1. Hi Mikkel,
Everywhere I read about the SAI it is stated that is used for Clustered Environments. I think this is very confusing, I have lots of customers not running clustered environment watching the SAI very closely. is this wrong ? and why is the documentation about the SAI in a non clustered environment so incomplete. any ideas ?

    Thanks

  2. Well I like to think of the SAI as being an indication of how busy the server think it is. However I have customers with boxes running consistantly with a SAI of 21% with response times being just perfect. In a clustered environment you can use the SAI to determine when to fail the users over to alternate servers (instead of simply waiting for the server to become unavailable).

I don’t think it makes any sense to look at the SAI in a clustered or non-clustered environment for anything else than to gauge the server load. Even in this case you need to monitor memory, CPU and I/O usage along with the SAI to get any meaningful results since the SAI will be box specific.

The important think to remember here is that SAI will be VERY box and platform specific and cannot be transferred among boxes – this is my experience anyway. There are some notes.ini settings for modifying how Domino calculates the SAI but they should be used with caution.
